Quick Q....
I've got myself a magnetic drive pump...I'm planing to fix a wheel valve on both the in & out..now the Q..do I need to loop back between them to make a balance pipe??...or will the wheel valves alone be enough in controlling the flow?? ..& I think I'm right that I would control the flow on the outlet only so as not to starve the pump.

It's not that important to have a flow balancer on a Mag drive pump, although it does give you finer control of flow rates . . . . it is essential on something like an RG550 or other direct drive pump as even with motor speed control you end up overheating the motor or cracking the seals. . . . I've also found out that my RG550 is much quieter when using a balancer than speed control

Do not restrict the inlet of the pump at all if possible

I thought I was on the right road.....am I right you put the balance pipe before the wheel valves??

Do something like this

No need for a valve on the inlet, if you do you will just starve the pump and bugger it up.

You seem to have valves on every pipe!

When you say wheel valve, do you mean "gate" valve?

The valves on the inlet are to switch feeds as this pump is multi use, ;)

it does mash tun filling, sparging, wort re-circulation and transfer to fv and also serves as the cip pump, hence large throughput required plus the facility for very fine control,& it does both admirably

Yup "Wheel valves"..where we come from.... :thumb:

U.P I've got the same thing in mind..use the pump for multi purpose...so will need to do similar pipe work to you :thumb: but it's a bugger how many valves you need for the contraption.. :hmm:
