Hi all I have a red ready for bottling (beaverdale equivalent to chateau du pap) however I don't really want to for out 40 quid for bottles / corking device. Will it be ok to put into bag in box? and left?

I know some members have used bad in a box and i cannot remember anyone saying they wish they hadn't so i would say go for it, an alternative is screw top wine bottles and Novatwist caps, pubs throw them away (bottles) so if you have a local ask them to put them to one side or if you can take some out of their bottle bin.

Yes go for it. I have stored that way for more than a year, works well for me. Bagged up 20 litres of Shiraz last night much quicker than bottles, also starting to avoid bottles with beer these days by using mini kegs. Of course you do have to drink it once you start the keg.......hovever i dont see that as any disadvantage

I've had no problems with bags - I've only got a couple of boxes and 5 bags so if there isn't a box free then I just bag it up and put the bags in a cool dark place until a box becomes free. Seems to work for me.

I regularly use polypins, basically a (nominal) 20 litre bag in a box with a screw-on tap. For white wine, I simply use 2 bottles, filling 1 to go in the fridge and the other already chilled. This is not necessary for red wine of course, but the reverse would be true if the polypin was stored in a cold place.
