Hi All,

Its been a while, maybe 10 years since i last dabbled in homebrewing. Now im back with avengance and renewed enthusiasm!

Thankfully i kept all the gear and have almost completed making a cider press

At the moment ive got a gallon each of elderflower and lemon wine and a turbo cider.

I have a bottle of Rocks blackcurrant cordial and which i would like to brew up but im not sure about the recipe;

500ml Rocks cordial
Wilko red grape concentrate
1tsp yeast nutrient
Sachet general wine yeast
Sugar and water to S.G 1.095

Planning to finish around S.G. 1.000 for a medium at 13%

With Blackcurrant already being quite acid, would i need to add any additional citric acid? Also not sure if i would need to add tanin? (i would use stong black tea)

Has anyone tried this with the cordial? How did it turn out?

Welcome to The Forum. :thumb:

The Rocks Blackcurrant Concentrate above has 167Kcal per 100ml whereas a Lowicz Blackcurrant Syrup has 260.51 Kcal per 100ml.

As most of the Kcals in these liquids comes from fermentable sugars, there may be a need to add more of the Rocks to get the required ABV and maintain the flavour.

Thanks for the replies. I started it yesterday using the recipe in original post. I added a cup of stewed tea and half a spoon of citric acid.

It's a 740ml bottle not 500 as I initially stated. I used the whole bottle. Hopefully that's enough with the sugar and grape concentrate.

I'll report back here in 6 months to let you know how it turned out.

Hi John,

How well has it fermented?
