Not done any brewing for over three years because I moved onto my narrowboat and was then diagnosed as coeliac :-(. I was just starting to get into the grain brewing too - shame.

However I now have a sympathetic girlfriend with a kitchen! and I have found a few gluten free beer kits so I'm back in the zone.

This weekend I shall be starting the 'Simply' gluten free kit and I'll do a review as I go. I used to make their Pale Ale a lot and hope it is as good as those.

Welcome back OP, I think we all have spells where we don't brew, I'm only recently back from a 6 month hiatus.

I had a St Peter's Gluten free beer out of Tesco's. I'm not a celiac but I wanted to try it to see what the taste was like. I was expecting something like alcohol free beer but I was pleasantly surprised. I thought it had nice bitterness and a lot of flavour so even as a non Celiac it's a style worth explopring.

Keep us updated on how you get on.

I had sort of given up on beer - Don't like the idea of paying £1.99 for a 330ml bottle that is ok but nothing special.

I went to the Cambridge beer festival and had a few pints from the Stringer brewery http://www.stringersbeer.co.uk/ Fantastic stuff. I'd forgotten how good it can be.

There are enzymes available such as White Labs Clarity Ferm that can be used on a normal all grain batch to make it gluten free, which is why some of the more recent gluten free beers taste just like the real thing - because they are!

The other spark I work with is coeliac and my son is dairy free, talk about reading ingredients on packets!
