I had a pint of Brewer's Gold from Crouch Vale Brewery yesterday. It was amazing and I can easily see why it was champion beer of Britain, two years running. A really fruity mouthful without being as in your face as a similar beer made with American hops.

I'd love to have a go at brewing a clone of it and it seems there are a few recipes about. The clue is in the name that this is a SMASH recipe with pale malt and lots of Brewers Gold hops.

Does anyone know where you can get hold of fresh 2015 harvest Brewer's Gold? If I'm going to make a SMASH, especially a very hop forward beer, I want the freshest hops possible as there is nothing to hind behind.

The Malt Miller has 2014 Brewer's Gold but not this year's harvest.

Luckily I already have the right yeast in stock for it.

Don't know where you can get 2015 Brewers Gold hops but what yeast are you going to use?

I have yeast from the Wibbler Brewery in Essex. They got it originally from the now defunct Ridley Brewery. Crouch Vale who are also an Essex brewery also apparently use the Ridley strain.

A small stroke of luck!

I've not found anywhere with 2015 Brewer's Gold hops so I may just get some 2014.

Apparently Brewer's Gold is almost always thought of as a bittering hop but I was blown away with the flavour.

I need some too. All my usuals only have 2014 so I expect the 15 crop got taken entirely by commercial breweries. Seems to be a theme this season. 2014 isn't so bad though, they should be fine.

Thanks :thumb:I am aware that you can buy their strain through the post directly from their brewery site. Think that'll be going on my every expanding yeast strain 'list to try'

It's a really nice strain, although it does seem to benefit from careful management like the Shepards Neam strain that has much discussed. It sits on top of the beer and I think this traps too much yeast away from the beer.

I'm not very good at describing yeast flavours but I'd say there is a pleasant fruitiness about to.
