I'm going to be travelling around Australia later this year. I've got a work visa so I'm hoping to find a few bar jobs whilst I'm out there.

I'm just wondering what Australian pubs are like. How do they differ to British pubs? Do they have pubs as we know them or is it all bars and clubs? Do they have real ale in Oz?

I've heard that the Little Creatures brewery in Freemantle have an awesome waterfront pub restaurant, my mate was there a few years back but raved on about it. Little Creatures Pale Ale is a nice beer, would definately be a good beer to be sipping on a hot sunny Aussie day whilst sat next to the sea!

When I was down there I got some strange looks when I asked for a Pint of X! They all drink scooners which i think are between a pint and a half pint. As it turns out it can be a nice size as your drink doent get too hot in the sun

If you are heading to Byron Bay you really should go and check out Stone and Wood

www.stoneandwood.com.au

I'm not so hot on the pubs in Brissy, but the local AHB'ers quite often mention The Platform Bar within the Grand Central Hotel: www.grandcentralhotel.com.au/hotel/bars.gch

Ross from Craftbrewer has got his own brewery up and running now so you could check that out: - http://www.bacchusbrewing.com.au/

There's also CUB up there, so if you want to see how the big boys do it, go and do the tour. I've done it - pretty impressive! www.carltonbrewhouse.com.au

Some Breweries to look out for if you see them in the bottleshops: -
Little Creatures www.littlecreatures.com.au (I'm in Western Australia at the moment and was at the Brewery in Fremantle last night drinking beers from the Bright Tanks! It was tough)
Mountain Goat www.goatbeer.com.au/
Murrays www.murraysbrewingco.com.au/ (my local brewery - Awesome!)
James Squire http://www.maltshovel.com.au/
Coopers

You'll struggle to find Fosters anywhere!

Have a flick through this website too: http://www.beerandbrewer.com/
