Hi All,

The Jan/Feb Group buy is now closed, so we can start building the next one from today.

As we get toward the minimum order with the maltster (40 sacks) I hope that travel will have become safer, and with some relaxation of the restrictions for journeys, especially for those a longer distance away.
Based on last time, I'd expect that we will be ordering for end of March, maybe sooner.

With that in mind, please send your provisional order by direct message to @Obadiah Boondoggle

No hard commitment is needed right now, as things might change with the lockdown restrictions, but it would help us to plan if we can get an idea of the group quantity. We will confirm with you nearer to the delivery date, to finalise what you need.

Currently collection from CW11, as last time, if safe and legal to do so.
As things become clearer potentially we hope to resume the original plan of local member collection points around the region and split pack quantities.

Prices (below) are all-inclusive and even include a handy sack with every purchase to carry your malt home in.

We have not set an exact date for the next buy for two reasons:

- We want to ensure that people can travel again so that they can collect, i.e when covid restrictions allow

- The magic number is 40 i.e. the number of bags on one pallet. This minimises delivery costs

If these two conditions are satisfied before April - we will go ahead whenever we are ready.

So we can start the next buy we would like people to say (now if they can) what they would have once travel restrictions are lifted

This is just an expression of interest at the moment and not a commitment on any ones part

When we have a 40 bag order and travel restrictions are lifted I will pm you to ask do you still want the bags you have expressed an initial interest in - if not - that's Ok. This just allows us to start to build the order

We will also look to provide 3kg bags of any of the malts if you would like to order some of these

In terms of price of the 3kg bags just take the price of a 25kg bag and divide it by 25 and then times it by 3

E.g. Pilsner @ £15.53 per bag

15.53 / 25 = 63p per Kg (assuming we round up)

3 X 63p = £1.89 :tinhat:

So 3 kg Pilsner for £1.89

If you need it bagging (as opposed to bringing your own bag) - there would be a small charge for a bag

All these prices are, of course, based on collection from CW11

So please, anyone reading this, fire ahead with your order based on the above

I don't yet know how to interpret the rules for Wales, but it may be a bit longer for this side of the border.

I have just had a query from someone that I wanted to clarify for all

The group buy is open to anyone, no matter how long you have been a member of the forum for, (even people from Stoke) and who is happy to collect from S Cheshire - when Boris allows which we are hoping will be April time

It's possible that due to the generosity of one member we might be able to arrange a collection point in Lancaster

So if you are in travelling distance of there and would be interested in some malt please let me know, so we can see how feasible it might be

Just by way of an update

As you know we intend to buy again in April (but not before) so that people can travel to collect. If the roadmap out of lockdown changes we would need to review this

However, we are nearly at our 40 bag limit and so if you are watching and waiting!

Some 3kg bags have been ordered and at this stage we have decided that the only 3kg bags that will be available this time round now will be (cost for 3kg bag, all crushed and collected from CW11)

I recall you saying that our little buyer's club could access the Crisp catalogue as well as Muntons. Is that the position with this round or will it be explored in future rounds? The reason for asking is that, with all the chat in the Bitter thread, I'm quite keen to try Crisp's Chevallier Heritage

We are going with Muntons on this occasion because they still owe us a favour from the last buy

I would be interested in views from others on the forum as to whether we would like to try Crisp next time

They do do some different malts

They are dearer than Muntons for some malts but cheaper for others

Just to confirm something else based on a question I have received (thanks there have been some good questions this time)

Muntons have confirmed that they do the whole range (as per my initial post) uncrushed. Each sack is 17p cheaper than the crushed sack across the board

If you wish you could order uncrushed, and it would arrive on a mixed pallet - mixed pallet not mixed bag!
