I have 200g of these and was planning to do a Smash beer but I’ve seen a few mixed reviews, has anyone here used them and if so what did you think? I may end up switching as I have 100g of Galaxy in the freezer as well.
Cheers

Not that it helps at the moment but they are planned for my next brew. Single hop but not single malt. Low AA so I’m using 200 gram in a 11L batch.

Absolutely love them....no wait. They're ****, best send any you have to me, for immediate disposal.

I love that they are low alpha, meaning that you can load the boil with them and still keep the IBUs in check. Two of my best recipes used them. One, with Citra to brew a Chocolate Lime brown Ale, the other in a SMaSH Saison, that won a homebrew comp and ended up being brewed commercially for a beer festival.

I could say but 200g of any hop in 20l is alot, how would you use them ie all in the boil or dry hop etc.
I would probably not use any in the boil but chuck 100g in the cube and dry hop with the other 100?
This might be ridiculous but hopefully turn out ok, it’s going in with 5kg of Golden Promise grains

I have 100g to use in an upcoming SMaSH so untested the hear about it!

EDIT - just realised this is waiti, I’m talking about Waimea. I guess I have a similar question then!

I have never done anything like that so can't really comment any more than its a great hop.

Got a brew waiting to be bottled with Waimea in it, I used them with Bobek and Belma though. All I can say is, they added quite a bit of citrus in the lemon/lime realm, so nice I reckon. Be good in something light with a hint of honey and maybe some biscuit flavours too maybe. Probably play with them more now the packet is opened.

Funny you should say that, because I also have 100g of Belma I was planning another SMaSH with

Belma is a nice, fruity, hop bud. Used it a few times for Saisons with good results.
I plan to pair it with either M44 or BRY-97 with it so I can see what the hop tastes like. From the description I’m hoping it’ll make a nice Blonde ale in future.

I used M44 once, not a bad yeast, high attenuator. Slow to start though, so don't let it panic you if you haven't used it before. Can be a bit slow to clear, once it does though it sticks to the bottom ok, with no odd flavours. Not used BRY-97, I kinda started playing with liquid yeasts (Kveik strains mainly) before I finished trying different dried yeasts, no going back from that really. lol Still have some Bulldog West Coast & Saison, MJ New World Strong Ale..... Doubt it'll ever get used, but it's there if I ever need it.

It made a good Saison, and seems to be golden in a golden, so should be good in a Blonde I'd think. I ended up binning a load though, bought too much in a sale, 2015 harvest, so basically that golden ale I used some from a still sealed pack, then binned it to make space in my freezer draw. If you are looking for a commercial beer with it in, Wychwood Dryneck is one, funnily enough hopped with Belma, Waimea and Bobek… Mine isn't overly a clone though, as no way is Dryneck made with Kveik, so more of a similar idea, implemented differently. ;) But I got my inspiration from Dryneck for sure, as it's a very drinkable beer.

Next plan though, a honey Saison with Waimea and Mandarina Bavaria....:beer1:

Yeah M44 is one of my go to yeasts- I prefer it to US-05 because it flocs better.
