I'm about to do my 3rd biab with the home brew company peco starter kit.

Using water from the combi boiler and insulating the boiler my last brew was at strike temp in less than 30min.

Rolling boil (particularly after a spare took the best part of 45mins...

just kits at the min but looking to do all grain BITB without using a peco or the likes,thought something like that and a ss pot would do the job.im sure someone on here uses a portable electric hob
 
Part of the reason I got the peco, the ladies of the house didn't enjoy the malty smell that my stove top brews brought to the house.

Good luck, I know someone on here uses something similar.
 
This helped me calculate time to boil times - Water heating time calculator For a given heat source.

One other problem possibly is have you got a large enough cable supplying your shed?
I would go with a propane burner if I was doing it away from the house. This could double up as a heater when it gets cold in there :)
 
2kw sounds a little low to me. I expect you will also have quite a sizeable pan on top as well weighing c.30kg so could do with something a bit sturdier.

The controls are on the front as well which will be easier if your pan overhangs the sides.

Using a propane gas burner is great if you brew outside but I wouldn't recommend using inside a shed because of the carbon monoxide and gas leak/explosion risk.

I have an induction hob so i bought a �£45 30l Stainless Steel pan hoping to brew inside. It does not work as the pan does not have enough steel in it even though was advertised as induction compatible. Also your not advised to lift when full as the handle are only spot welded. I imagine your gonna have to spend upwards of �£100 for a decent large pot. I have gone back to my burco boiler. Next thing i buy will be a 40l electric stainless boiler.
Someone mentioned about the power consumption and they have a good point. The cable on mine does get hot.

I agree if you did use this option you need to be aware of the risks and do it safely.
Depends on size of shed, leave door & window open etc, and if possible keep cylinder outside.
Something else I wasn't warned about is that mice like to eat rubber hoses and cables - which I learned when a ride-on petrol lawnmower suddenly started leaking petrol everywhere. :doh:

Cost wise the propane burner is cheaper... 2nd hand calor bottle, massive ring burner and done!

On the safety note they use calor to power indoor heaters but I'd keep the windows open... do be aware the cheap rings are like Bunsen burners and you need to open the air feed lest you try poison the house and soot up all your kit.
 
I don't understand why they don't like the smell. SWMBO comments as soon as the mash starts. I love the smell but she doesn't. She's quite happy to drink the beer though
