Just starting to make some of my own malt Barley from raw Barley. If people are interested I can take some pics and do a write up of the process I use for Malting.

Is it worth the hassle? I spend 5 hours brewing, last thing I'd want is to try malting. :wha:

Be great to see a few pics though. :thumb:

By the time I pay an extra £10-£20 for postage up here?
My life plan has me making my old malt.
I have a tumble drier that I will convert. I will make a temp controlled rolling bucket etc once I have my shed built.

The life plans was; build house, get garden and polytunnel up and running, build a half decent home brew setup, get bike back onto road, build shed, get hens, make malt.

Looks like the bike on the road will slip, although it is now completly in bits
House almost done; got to put a cupboard under the stair. Garden started. Brew setup almost happy with. Shed this summer :thumb:

Anyway, Yes pics please. Sounds like a pritty good 'how to' :thumb:

Me and Mugsy53 malt our own as we cant get malted where we live. The sprouting and drying is the easy bit. Actually roasting and crushing is harder but can be done.

Depends how much you wanna drink :thumb:

Love to see a post. Know what BB means but sounds like another avenue to explore, just for the hell of it.
Best I've bought malt is £19.50 a bag, recon barley can be had for a less than a third of that.......... :)

I'd like to see pics and a write up just to have an idea of how it's done... I like the whole self-sufficient/back-to-basics idea of beer making. You know, in case World War III happens. We may be glowing green and growing three arms but at least we'll know how to make beer; which would be a lot easier with three arms, come to think of it...

Looks like there's some interest, so I'll post some picks and brief descriptions of the process I use. I wouldn't call it a 'how to' as its only the second time I've done, and I know of a few different ways, but I find this way easy, and not too time consuming. You guys who are seasoned malters can perhaps offer a few pointers? I'll go threw my roasting process aswell.

Barley now chitting, so hopefully will be ready by the weekend, when I'll do a little write up.
