Has anyone got a DAB radio, are they worth buying and why are they sooooooooo expensive??

Kev

I've got one trouble is its not a good reception area. Stations I do get are great when they work properly but some times they do have a gurgle sound. We are told it will improve when the analog TV signals are switched off next year and digital is upgraded. There is a site you can check reception in your area.

I have a BAD sorry I mean DAB Radio/Alarm in the bedroom and a DAB radio in the Kitchen. Not the best reception on some stations but just for the fact you can only get some stations on DAB they are worth getting. Why so expensive because of lack of demand at present. If you mean DAB for your car then I would say get a Pure Highway DAB Radio Tuner. It recieves DAB signel then re sends it on an available FM frequency that your current car stereo can recieve.

I like the look of that one, just for the wifi, internet radio it can get. We have a regular DAB and love it. sometimes there are signal issues, not that different to FM really, just wider variety stations. Internet radio would be a strong sell for me, but then I do already have all that hooked up through the PC anyway.

we have this one
PURE ONE Elite, Portable Stereo DAB/FM Radio

very nice odd gurgle on local stations

and its stereo most are not

I have one, I think it's the PURE ONE. It's fantastic. I get every station really clear. It's portable. You get all the extra service and MW stations. Would recommend them.

hi,i have the makita 101 dab site radio just so i can listen to Planet Rock and the Mrs has an Intempo with ipod dock in the kitchen.
Both are very good imho. ken

DAB wouldn't work around me. I use internet radio, via a FREECOM radio. If you have broadband and leave the router on all the time this is a good solution, thousands of channels from around the world in perfect quality plus your own playlists from your music collection. It is worth considering one of those netbooks and a cheap (or expensive) set of speakers which will normally be far superior to a radios speaker, I think even an iPhone/iPad or Windows Mobile phone plus a docking station can connect to your wifi and use internet radio.

So I now get Thai radio as well as Thai TV on my computer

We listen via sky/internet, however that was a bit too complex for my parents so bought them one of these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Roberts-ECO1BK- ... 242&sr=8-1
really good reception and easy to use, especially if you read the instructions, works from mains or rechargable batteries and is small enough to take about without being too small to operate with poor eye sight or old fingers.

years ago a guy came to the door and asked if i would do a radio survey. he asked if i had a dab. i had 1in bedroom 1 in kitchen 1 in living room 1 portable dab for my cycletours. also the tv and pc which i use sometimes, the pc quite a lot.

i couldnt get one for the car at the time.

he didnt belive me.

I have one in my brew shed, it's a must! You simply have to listen to "Absolutle 80's" for a bit of Duran Duran, Adam and the Ants etc.

Rob

we have a couple, great when they get a good signal.... but the odd warble noise drives me nuts,

there not all that good and a few stations have dropped off of the platform....

but....planet rock is ace.. and i agree on absolute 80's too

Got one in my car and its great

Dont even need to use my Ipod now as the choice of stations is outstanding

:D

I bought a DAB radio yesterday in a local secondhand shop for fifteen quid. Its nearly brand new and considering a new one would cost nearly fifty I thought it was a bargain.

I have heard that if you use batteries to power one they don't last long when using it, not sure if this is true or not.

Why on earth Radcliffe and Marconi moved from Radio 2 to BBC Radio 6 I don't understand. It must be the best show on radio.

I have one but signal keeps turning people into Daleks so i switch back to FM. When it's working it is very good but gets on my nerves always having to turn it to fm so i rarely use it now
