Any other early morning brewers out there?

I love early mornings. Best time of the day I think. I was up at 6:30 this morning in the dark, got my water treated and the heater on.

Mashed in at 7:30, tuned in to jazz radio on the internet and sat back with a cuppa watching first light reveal a heavy frost on the back lawn. Happy days.

Good effort Fox, I do like peace of Sunday mornings, before the rabble wake !! Not brewing as such this morning, but have sanitised a DJ for some wine later.

Ha I was a metal head years ago. Now I like more chilled out background music though I still listen to ministry or NiN occasionally just not when brewing.

Got a mash pH of 5.22 thanks to brunwater. Happy with that because this is a very pale wheat beer. Heating up for the boil now. Remembered to stir. Don't want scorched wort.

Also a morning brewer, often a Friday as son is in nursery and daughter has music. Get the prep work done the night before then set the GF to be hot for half 7, means I'm done (more or less) by lunchtime and everyone getting home.

Lie in for me this morning, but usually do my brewing early mornings. And as I like to drink whilst brewing have got some strange looks from the postman when I open the door with a pint in my hand.

All finished and washed up by 1pm today. My first American wheat beer and I undershot SG by 6 points due to efficiency being 70% instead of my usual 80-ish. If I get the usual high attenuation from my WLP007 then I'm looking at a session wheat beer of 3.9% ABV. Not too bad and I'll know to adjust for the future when brewing with wheat.

It's rare I get started after 8am, can't be doing with losing an entire day to a brew. If there's overnight sport on (the Ashes, or test rugby in Aus / NZ) I'll get under way at 4-5am with the match on in the background.

I'm an early morning brewer and am disappointed if the mash isn't on by 7.30. I usually brew on Mondays which is my day off, so I get up just after 6am to get the wife and kiddie off and get the mash on, so when everyone's out the house I can really crack on with the brew. Listening to Planet Rock of course.

I can only brew when mrs DOJ is out so I generally can't start before 9am on weekdays and around 12pm on Weekends :-(

Wish I could. Always up by 7 but in the weekends everybody likes to sleep in.

I naturally wake very early (0510 right now and been up for 30 mins!). Full of energy first thing, then it's all downhill from there. It'll be the same tomorrow; I'll be well into mashing at this time and be done by 10am latest. I brew in the kitchen but the missus and kid will be oblivious to it all.

Tis true! I have serious problems with sleep, most likely as a result of doing constantly changing shifts and a brain that was supplied without an 'off' switch. I tend to spend free afternoons catnapping... not good.

I am a late convert. Typically I am not a morning person, but on a Saturday brew day I find myself down in the kitchen at times never previously seen eager to crack on. It used to be at least midday at least before I got my sht together!

I like to start a brew day as early as possible, preferably when I am off, that way I can take my time and fit a brew day in whilst I do other things

I also don't like brewing or bottling unless Mrs. Cwrw is out at work as I more or less take over the kitchen and living room. Unfortunately that means it's my job first thing to feed and check all the animals which can easily take an hour or more, so I never seem to be able to get started until 9.00. Still finished by 1.30 usually though except for pitching which I do at bed time as I no-chill.

I used to like my early morning brew days but with working nights every other week I use the Sunday night to brew as it doesn’t interrupt the weekend and gives me something to stay up late for, helping get into the routine of the shift. I use Sunday morning to wash out the sanitizer, and fill up with mash and sparge water and getting the water treatment done which all in all only takes around 15 mins to do. So in the evening it’s just a case of flicking a switch and the process begins it’s quite nice brewing in the dead of the night and recently with the frosts the water from the outdoor tap seems extra cold so the chiller does it’s job in no time.
