Any boxing fans in?

I used to be a boxing fan but when every decent sport moved to sky i lost interest, is Joshua another Frank Bruno a muscle bound fighter with a big punch.

Andy Ruiz Jr produced one of the biggest shocks in the history of heavyweight boxing to rip Anthony Joshua's IBF, WBO and WBA world heavyweight titles from him and tear up the division's proposed plot lines.

In a truly remarkable fight at New York's Madison Square Garden, Ruiz floored Joshua four times en route to a seventh-round stoppage, which stunned this famous arena and handed the Briton his first defeat as a professional.

Joshua was a 1-25 favourite with bookmakers, with 22 wins - 21 by knockout - going into the fight. He will now join the likes of Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson as dominant champions to suffer losses which brought the sport to a standstill.

"I got beaten by a good fighter," said 29-year-old Joshua on Sky Sports. "It will be interesting to see how far he goes, but this is all part of the journey.

"He's a champion for now, I shall return."

Has it always been the case that a lot of heavyweight boxers just look like fat men? I always thought the likes of Eric “Butterbean” Esch were anomalies of the sport, but now it seems that every time I see highlights from heavyweight bouts at least one of the fighters has a bit of a “doughy” physique.

Incidentally, strongman seems to be going the opposite direction and where it used to all be about the power belly the competitors are more like out of season body builders.

I have watched many of Butterbeans knockouts and for those who are saying WHO? here are a few.

I was worried for Joshua going into this fight. In every interview I heard in the last week, he was talking about who his opponent would be after this fight. He seemed to be overlooking the fight he was due to have.

I have always been a boxing fan, but similarly when it went pay per view etc... I kind of left it behind.
Boxing to me is fascinating because it's a real mix of strength, technical ability and mindset. Frank Bruno was a great guy, a decent bloke, and a decent boxer, but he definitely had a glass jaw. Lloyd Honeyghan was a stupendously good boxer yet his career falter and failed due to hype and misplaced belief. Tyson Fury is a terrible person by all accounts, yet his abilities to lose his weight, get into shape and box superbly are unmatched on the whole.
This may do Joshua a favour, he seems a good bloke, if he can come back from this I'll have a great deal of respect for him.

I’m changing my whole approach. Cancelling my gym membership and going to look at 6 pints and fish and chips every night. Should be ready to take on the world in just a few months.

Our towns full of those on a friday and saturday night. :laugh8:

Watched the fight.
Started pretty cagey but scored the first two rounds to Joshua.
Joshua got the knockdown and didn't expect Ruiz to come back the way he did.
Think he hurt either his arm, shoulder or ribs as he kept one arm by his side for the rest of fight after being knocked down (or maybe after knocking ruiz down).
Had no idea how to cope with the pressure ruiz brought.

Think Joshua wins the rematch, but i'm not sure his best option is to take it.
He obviously has issues with smaller fighters he could take some time to work on that then return to the world stage a better fighter.
