I survived to see 40 today, so as a present to myself I've invested in the "Standard Shiny Brewery" (SSB) of 70L stockpots and a 50L thermopot

So wheres the best place to get perforated stainless for a false bottom?... and what bits do I need for a sight tube?... will it ever end?

I bought mine on ebay.
An hour with an angle grinder and some swearing should give you a screen once you edge it in PVC pipe

I bought mine from RS and used tin snips, I didn't have much flesh left at the end, should have used gloves

I may well use a tame metalworker at work for the cutting, just need to find the material. Its weird that a square of perforated stainless almost costs as much as the pot itself! Has anyone found a stainless plate that can be drilled which fits nicely in the bottom?

Look for a guy on eBay called TopSecretJob . . . He can get hold of Perforated SS Sheet at a reasonable price (Well I say Reasonable 2 40cm squares would cost 50 quid)

This is where my concept of reasonable falls down, having just paid an amount of money for 2 stockpots and a thermopot (actual things made of stuff) I baulk at paying just under a third of their price on a 50cm squared bit of metal with holes in it.
But then our worlds f***ed up at the moment, I mean you can buy a whole kettle for less than the price of an element.
Sorry, rant over... must be my age!
