Hi all,

Just got into this homebrewing malarky, been lurking around for a couple of months now gleaning all kinds of valuable information to help in my new hobby. Just got my third brew up and running, all kits so far, but I can pretty safely say I'll be tempted to try the dark side pretty soon. Might go there via a couple of extract brews.

Thanks to all the guys who've asked and answered questions about the wherry kit getting stuck at 1020 (sod's law that would happen on my first time!) Never got it to shift from there so just primed it, put it in a pressure barrel and left it for about 3 weeks. It turned out a bit hazy (possibly due to central heating packing in on the first day of the cold spell in December) but tasted fine. If it hadn't been for the advice given on this forum i'd probably have packed it in as a bad job.

Welcome. I did a year of kit brewing, before I took the plunge and built the AG brewery. Did my first AG brew last weekend, can't wait to do the next.

I did a Wherry, it was still a bit hazy after a couple of months, but cleared in the end.

This homebrewing malarky takes a bit of beating - welcome to the forum

Thanks for the welcome guys.

Everything had been going pretty smoothly 'til I started to bottle my latest brew (Milestone Lion's Pride) yesterday and discovered that I'd been sent a corking machine instead of a crown capper  Fortunately in a rare moment of caution I had decided to just fill one bottle and make sure everthing worked before I went ahead and filled all the bottles.

I had transferred the ale into my barrel on Sunday and intended to leave for 3 days before bottling. I released the pressure before starting to fill but soon regreted that. So my question now is if I get the capper for Saturday, will I be okay to bottle straight from the barrel or would I have to prime it again? or am I better off leaving it in the pressure barrel as I can always add gas as necessary.

I'm hoping to get down the shop where I ordered the capper from to exchange it on Saturday, and while i'm there I may get a second fermenting bin with tap for bottling and maybe a second barrel - I'm looking to get some fairly intensive brewing done so I can stockpile some supplies, otherwise i'll never let anything condition beyond a couple of weeks ;) From what i've been reading on here conditioning is good

welcome. is the dark side calling getting stronger?
Kits, extract and all grain brewing can all produce excellent ale. All grain just let's you play more :thumb:
