Lurking away in my specialty grain box is a 500g pack of aromatic malt bought on impulse with no clue about what to do with it. I'm sure you chaps haven't got any ingredients like that, but I'm new here :)

Seems like an American Amber is an option - anyone else brewed one? Anyone else used aromatic? Here's my stab at a recipe:

Recipe Specs
----------------
Batch Size (L): 21.5
Total Grain (kg): 4.650
Total Hops (g): 72.00
Original Gravity (OG): 1.050 (°P): 12.4
Final Gravity (FG): 1.013 (°P): 3.3
Alcohol by Volume (ABV): 4.91 %
Colour (SRM): 11.2 (EBC): 22.1
Bitterness (IBU): 32.6 (Tinseth)

Grain Bill
----------------
3.700 kg Pale Malt (79.57%)
0.400 kg Caramunch (8.6%)
0.300 kg Crystal 60 (6.45%)
0.250 kg Aromatic Malt (5.38%)

Hop Bill
----------------
22.0 g Northern Brewer Leaf (9% Alpha) @ 60 Minutes (Boil) (1 g/L)
20.0 g Columbus Leaf (16.1% Alpha) @ 10 Minutes (Boil) (0.9 g/L)
30.0 g Columbus Leaf (16.1% Alpha) @ 0 Minutes (Aroma) (1.4 g/L)

This will be AG#4 for me, but I'm still getting dialled into my methods.

exaggerated malt flavour apparently. good for malty beers. I like to keep it simple when using a new ingredient so I can see the effect more! it always makes good beer

Ta, maybe it's a winter thing but I'm more into malty than hoppy at the moment, so that's good news.

The high colour crystal is in there for colour, but good point about letting the new thing shine through. I'd happily dump the whole 500g pack of aromatic in, but don't know if that's overkill? :hmm:

I mashed 500g of amber malt for a 15l extract brew. I was testing a partial mash in the inevitable journey towards AG. It is extremely caramelly (just invented a word there). I wish I'd used much less.

Cheers Duxuk, that's good knowledge.

Just realised I posted this in the wrong place, will try to get it right next time  (mods feel free to move)
