On Coopers D.I.Y. web site their recipe for "Nut Brown Ale" uses a can of Coopers Dark Ale
1kg light dry malt extract and 200g Crystal malt.
I have a Dark Ale to do and I also have 1.7kg Amber liquid Malt extract.
Does anyone know if the Amber LME gets it's colour from the addition of Crystal malt thereby negating the need for me adding any myself?
It seems a bit unnecessary adding Crystal if it has already been added to the malt extract.
Thanks.

I don't know, but it could be coloured with Black Malt rather than crystal, as that's what a lot of us use for colour adjustment.

I'd use the crystal as per the recipe, it adds flavour as well as colour.

Agreed, the additions of grains will add more than just colour to your brew. It won't hurt to omit them if you have trouble getting hold of them, but will be better if included.
