Hey all,
I had a busy brewday yesterday and knocked up an Amber (although it might well be a bit dark) with Bodicea and Bramling cross hops.

Brew length - 23l
OG - 1.051
FG - 1.012
ABV - 5.2%
Colour - 46 EBC
34 IBU

Grain;
Maris Otter - 3.7kg 77%
Torrified wheat - 500g 10%
Chocolate malt - 200g 4%
Crystal 60 - 200g 4%
Crystal 150 - 200g 4%

Hops;
Bodicea (7.8%) 15g boil,
Bram x (6.6%) 15g boil,
Bodicea 20g 10 mins,
Bram x 20g 10 mins,
Bodicea 10g 10 mins,
Bram x 10g 10 mins.

Yeast 1 litre starter of WLP005

Single step mash at 67*
90 minute boil.

I'm not sure if the hop bill is a bit much for the style but it's the first go at this idea so I'll develop it over time. All went according to plan, hit all the numbers apart from OG which ended up at 1.052 so close enough.
The yeast took off after about 9 hours.
I'm hoping to strike a good balance between the hops, esters and caramel/chocolate grains, like I said, I'll develop it!

The hops are new to me, the Bodicea smelt realy nice and bright, with some spice and a hint of dark fruit. The Bramling X (which I was most excited about) was very disapointing, very similar to EKG to my nose, not that that is a bad thing, just I was hoping for that blackcurrant aroma associated with this hop, maybe it'll come through in the brew later on..?

All in all a happy day, hopefully it'll be drinkable by Christmas.

It's one of the yeasts I haven't used but keen to, it's very popular with home brewers.

Cracked open a few or these last night. Really nice, very drinkable and quite moreish.
The choc and crystals have all blended really smoothly. It is a tad dark for an amber, possibly more of a porter.
Slightly sweet malt leads to a dry finish, with the chocolate and crystal all happening in the middle.
The hops are not really there, well, they are so faint you really have to know what you're smelling for.
But all in all a lovely pint, defo making this again with a few adjustments.
