I have a recipe for an ESB that I'd like to try, but it uses Victory (R) malt from American maltster Briess and it's not readily available in the UK, if at all. Briess describes is as follows:

"Biscuit Malt. Well suited for Nut Brown Ales & other dark beers. Its clean flavor makes it equally well suited for ales and lagers alike. Use in small amounts to add complexity to lighter colored ales and lagers.
Flavor: Toasty, biscuity, baking bread, nutty, clean.
Levibond: 28"

Any suggestions for a UK-available alternative? I suppose any generic biscuit malt should do the trick? I'm pretty new to this (just bottled my third brew), so not too hot or recipe alterations yet.

PS: Maybe I should mention that to Americans "biscuits" are bready, savoury scone-like rolls, very different to what we'd call biscuits! Is amber still the best substitute? I can get both amber and biscuit malt at my LHBS, so that's not an issue.

Thanks for the replies, guys!

Having read all the responses - thank you once again to all - I think I'll be using amber malt as my substitute, as I intend to use it as the tan part of a Black & Tan and the black being a dry stout; I'm thinking that is I get a little more residual sweetness, the dryness of the stout will counter that. That, and I love digestives! LOL!
If the brew is a success - and the Black & Tan nice - I shall post full details.
