Hi All,

I put a Brupacks Almondbury Old Ale into the FV on Sunday, re-hydrated the yeast (11g of Nottingham) and pitched at about 23 degs and put it in a water bath at 18 degrees. On Monday the temp was 21 degs and today it is back to 18 degs. I haven’t had one bubble through the airlock, I did seal it up with plumber’s putty last night at the grommet, just to make sure it is gas tight, still no bubbles this morning. There is a residue of foam inside the FV, only about an inch, though.

Is this normal? Every other brew I’ve done has seen the airlock bubbling like a mentalist for at least two days. Help! It’s too bloody expensive a kit to go wrong!!

Cheers.

I wouldnt panic too much as gas can escape from the seal of the lid too. As you have said theres a top layer so the yeast is working. I'd say give it at least a week and just check the gravity. that will tell you if the yeast is/has done its job
