I was on course a year ago to buy 'modular' equipment with boiler(s), insulated mash tun and lots of tubing ... but then I found a Grainfather on a 'black friday' promo and was sold .. it has certainly been easy to use, although the since the app was upgraded that has been a bit of a trial. But comments above about it not being really all in one are quite true - for example, I find it really helpful to have another boiler for heating sparge water, and of course one or more fermentation vessels are still needed. For information, BrewUK currently seem to have the GF Connect on at £595 ...

I've only been AG brewing about a year. Current setup is BIAB on a Buffalo induction hob. I do use a simple jug sparge (£10 kettle) & that's the one part of the process I'd like to improve as it's a) slow & b) I keep spilling sugary wort over the side. I don't think the cost of an all in one would produce sufficient benefit. If I was starting from scratch, I might be tempted.

Im brewing in 2x 7L pasta pots on an induction hob in the kitchen. I too get sugary spills. I’m tempted by an all in one (klarstein maischfest is available for £154.99 delivered). However, I’m unsure the quality of beer would improve. I’m happy with clarity. Batch volumes would increase as I currently aim to get about 11/12l in the fermenter aiming for about 20 500ml swingtop bottles. Also I could brew outdoors but I do like having the separate pot!

on the forum and web klarstein maischfest gets poor write ups on temperature control.

Bought a budget version at the beginning of the year and I'm more than pleased with it, must admit haven't got around to programing it yet, just use it on manual. On my 7th brew with it and think I've got the hang of what I'm doing.

I changed from my propane 3 vessel with cool box mash tun to an all in one (cheap version), mainly to save space and I also wanted electric.

If I had a dedicated garage etc, 3 vessel is easier and possibly cheaper but I love mine and think it was the best investment I've made.

I love my grainfather. It's much quicker and easier than my BIAB kit was, and makes less mess so swmbo's happy as well. I don't get why anyone would think it's cheating, the process is the same; just easier and more controllable. I can easily do 2 brews in a day, and it's easy to clean. What's not to like?

Yes, two I bought, the 40 litre Brew Devil etc and the BM the 50 litre Brew Devil etc I won, the 60 litre Brau Wolf I was given for helping them with the design, but really is a copy of the BD the locking bottom plate was their idea which I passed on, and is now incorporated in the B D's etc.

I was going to start BIAB after years of kits, but found a second hand Bulldog on ebay for a very good price. The previous owner had taken really good care of it. Compact and easy to use. I also got a used Cygnet boiler which is handy for sparge water.

I was going to forward SWMBO GEB’s Brewmonk offer (in hope rather than expectation) but if this Klarstein one is the real deal it’s a bargain!


Edit - found it, it’s not an all in one it’s the same BIAB system as the Ace boiler I already use and looks like it’s the standard price not a GF offer.
