Only have to be at work later this afternoon so its a quick brew this morning.

Since I'm supposedly having a wardrobe delivered (no news yet on the lions and witches), I was reminded of the fact that CS Lewis reportedly drank Morrels' beers. A now long defunct Oxford brewery.

There's some vague recipes online here

http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=6vbW ... rs&f=false

So I'm matching the grain bill for their light ale as a convenient way to try out torry wheat for the first time.

Hops will be home-grown fuggles.

500g torry
300g crystal
5.2kg pale

Mash on at 0600. Sparging soon....

Edit
Hmmm.... Temp when wrapped up was 66.5..... checked the temp after an hour and was 68! :wha:

Got the chiller on now.

Should be finished and cleaned up by 11.

I was a bit concerned about the high mash temp and although I dropped it for 30mins I was worried it might be too sweet with 300g of crystal in it so I used 100g of fuggles at 90mins and 50g at 10mins to balance out the sweetness.

Still no wardrobe

Well the wardrobe did eventually come and its jolly nice.

Whats also jolly nice is this beer. Although its not quite "there yet" its a very good pint. Aromatic, pale and refreshing, with a somewhat phenolic quality. My home grown fuggles really did their bit here.

As an observation, it seems to me that wheat in the mash tends to do something to the bitterness. I wouldnt say its harsher, but in some way its more brassy, more full and perhaps even more aggresive. Something I have noticed with other wheat heavy English style bitters.
