0.51 kg Chocolate Malt
0.32 kg Torrified Wheat
0.24 kg Crystal Malt
0.23 kg Roasted Barley

Hops

43.44 g Northern Brewer - 90 mins

Additions

125 g Cocoa Powder - 15 mins in the boil
110 g Cold brew coffee - bottling bucket (0.5 litre total) - No longer being added

Yeast

Danster Windsor

All done...

The wort it has produced is the best tasting starting wart yet. Its sweet and has a wonderfully complex dark chocolate profile to it. There is a good chocolate aroma as well :)

A lot of the cocoa powered dropped to the bottom of the boiler as I was warned but it did leave behind a lovely chocolate smell and taste so very happy :) Of course all the chocolate malt no doubt helped as well :) I can't taste or feel the powder. I whisked it quite heavily and transferred it to new bowls a couple of time so I didn't take any unmixed powered to the boiler. Think it worked very well :)

Cant wait to taste it post fermentation :)

Some pics :)

Well done , looks very stoutish i can almost smell it . Shame you didn't brew it in time for christmas though but then again plenty of beer for the new year .

My wife is pregnant and can't drink this Christmas so I said I would make her a Christmas brew for March once she has had the baby :)

Thought I would update this in case anyone tried to follow it.

It got stuck around 1.020... Not sure why. I think I may of under pitched the year but more likely I think there are just some unfermentables in there or something.

Its bottled now and tastes really good. So good I decided it didn't need the coffee. Real nice chocolate profile but its around the 3.3-3.5% mark. So a tad disappointed.

Either way should still be a nice drink. Will let you know in a three weeks or so.

I suppose I am not doing too bad seeing this is my first AG thats not quite worked out as planned.

excellent , can you describe the flavours you are getting ? and anything you should do different next time . How would you compare it to a) kits and b) extract . :D

The smell and taste is of dark chocolate... So imagine your standard stout profile with a bitter dark chocolate taste... I originally thought about adding coffee but I wouldn't do that now given how bitter it is.

The good thing is it doesn't have a chocolate powered feel to it and its feels good and smooth in the mouth.

Its very nice. Not a session ale... I like to drink one at a time... Very nice with any meal with red meat!

Happy with it

I think the next chocolate stout I do I would like to sweeten it and see how that works out.
