Finally found time to do a quick write-up for AG#3! I'm a big fan of wheat beers, particularly Hoegaarden, and wanted to try and make something similar. I had a bit of a search on google and came across this recipe. Unfortunately, I couldn't get hold of any flaked wheat, so I've replaced this with torrified wheat.
3kg Torrified Wheat
2.8kg Bohemian Pilsener Malt
40g Saaz (60mins)
20g Corriander Seeds (15mins)
20g Curacao Orange Peel (15mins)
Safbrew WB-06 yeast
Final Volume: 23l
Original Gravity: 1.030
Final Gravity: 1.004 (3.4%)
I've bottled it all today and it's looking pretty good. The colour's good, although I can't see it retaining the same cloudyness as Hoegaarden. It tastes lovely too.....close enough to put a smile on my face!
I think I might try adding some honey to the next batch to bring the OG up a bit.
