Hi Folks, yes, the Abester is brewing once again. I'm off tomorrow and I have a free cornie so thought I may aswell brew something to fill that bad boy.

no real method in my recipe madness, a sort of English IPA, apart from the Vienna malt, which is presumably Austrian! i had open bags of lager, vienna and crystal I wanted to get rid of hence the random amounts, still to decide on the hops in the morning but thinking of northdown or northern brewer for bittering, fuggles addition somewhere in the middle and magnum and centennial to finish but nothing set in stone, but I will probably sack that in the morning, look out the simcoe, amarillo galaxy and cascade and make it a hopmonster.overnight mash aswell.

Pale malt 3kg
Lager malt 883g
Vienna malt 311g
Crystal 40 325g

Sounds lovely - could i ask how long have you had that thermometer and is it reliable?

I have just bought the same one after my last one (different kind) broke half way through my first ever AG??

So, what are you going for hop wise? Hopmonster gets my vote :thumb:

Matt, I also have that thermometer and it reads 1-2°c higher than my glass thermometer. But now I know that I can account for it :thumb:

just woke up, mash was on at 10.50 pm and at 10.15 it was at 57 degrees. dunno what I'm doing hop wise, will update in due course. the thermometer is very good and reliable, just watch if you leave it in hot water and the plastic probe has melted and bent a wee bit!

I have one of these thermometers and it is very accurate too.
I checked mine with boiling water and iced water.

Nice mix of hops there abey, you'll have to let us have your tasting notes. I had a thermometer like that, it only lasted 18 months and I've now gone back to the glass one.
