For what DJ? Both bring different things to the beer. Caramalt is a lot lighter in flavour and colour than Crystal, although essentially it's a very light crystal malt.

I only put Crystal in that recipe on the calculator because Caramalt wasn't listed at the time.
 
This was my first all grain and I was well happy with it, in fact I am brewing it again this weekend for a mates party. It introduced me to Americain hops and I now can't get enough of them!! I used regular crystal and think it was better for it, bit darker and more body. Going to dry hop it this time as well.

Now I understand :thumb: it's one or t'other...hence the big Q...I'm now learning again the complexity of the malts all over again...there's a lot of change over the last 15/20 years since I last did AG..and you just want to get it correct first time :wha: many thanks James
