I have purchased a SS airstone and an aquarium pump to aerate the wort. However it seems to work only intermittently. Anyone else have this problem and can anyone suggest a solution

What size holes is the airstone? A lot of the ones designed for brewing are 0.5 microns where as the fish tank pump is likely to be 2 microns. This means that it take a lot more pressure to pump air through a 0.5 micron air stone. Your pump may not have the puff to do this.

I use the air stones that came with my pump and so far they seem to be working ok. I sanitise them with star-san first and then stick them in the wort for 15-20 minutes. My pump has two outputs so I use both of them.

I had the same problem. I think you need an oxygen tank and thicker tube. I kinda gave up as seemed axpensivee, my air stone bubbled once and that was it. I think you can get a small oxygen canister from your local welding supplier.

Bumping this a bit, so sorry......
I've ordered a 2 micron SS from China eBay... I was gonna rig it up to a pump for inflating air beds rather than an O2 canister or aquarium pump.
Its quite powerful. What's your thoughts fellow brewers ?

Never, ever had an issue brewing beer with too little oxygen in the wort.

Not with kits.

Nor with AG - bit of a whisk with - er, an actual whisk.

Never an issue.

I really am sorry, but I just do not get a fixation with aeration.

Unless your planning on doing big beers, which seem to really benefit from extra aeration, I'm with Slid on this, I've never had a problem just whisking the wort or pouring it into the FV from a height

Cheers fellas........

I think I'll give it a go, just to see if it makes any difference.....
I usually just gravity aerate from the boiler and it seems OK......
Can't resist a tinkering ....
I'll update in a couple of weeks

Happy days.....
