Hi

I have had a coopers Aus Lager fermenting since xmas eve and its only my second brew.
Dosent seem quite right havent had any bubbling from airlock that i can see temp has remained at around 22-24.
When take hydrometer readings it seems fizzy which im pretty sure it should be flat does this mean my lager is carbonating due to c02 not getting out?

Hydo readings when started was 1.043 and is now 1.02ish so obv something is working, had no real output of yeast/waste to show anything has happened there is a light bubble head and seems to be some brown type powder on head.

When yeast was pitched stired it well to get it througout.

Any one explain why it dosent seem like it should.

The hydrometer readings would indicate fermentation is complete, your FV might well not have been as airtight as you thing which is why no bubbles in the airlock.
So no worries about that I would think, move on and bottle it I would suggest :thumb:

HI
Most FVs won't make a good air-tight seal so your beer is probably still fermenting but the C02 is leaking out from the edge and not the air-lock. This isn't a problem but it does mean that you need to rely on the hydrometer to check when it has finished.

If your beer is still reading somewhere in the 1020's I'd say it hasn't finished yet. I haven't made a kit beer for years and I'm afraid so I'm a bit rusty on what the final reading should be but I'd guess somewhere around 1005 (?) Take a reading each day (remembering to sterilize anything that comes into contact with the beer) and when it has remained the same for 3 days, go to the next stage - which for me would be racking it to a secondary, but it's just a matter of preference really.

One other thing, your temp is a little high. If you are able, try to keep it in the 18 - 21C range. Your lager won't be carbonating as CO2 can't be held in without pressure above keeping it in there.

Good luck, a little patience goes a long way - it's a problem we all have!

i will turn the old central heating off a little kept heat on as didnt want the winter weather to drop while was at work ;)
