I am planning on doing an 23L IPA kit next and thought about adding some extra hops. I am very new to this and would be grateful for suggestions on what variety would work well and how much to use?

I've been banging on about this for a good while now!

The only things I would do differently next time:

1) Ferment it then rack it, then add the dry-hop for a couple of weeks then bottle.
2) Tie my hands behind my back for two months after bottling to prevent me guzzling it like I have this batch!

If you like the currently vogue american citrussy APA style then you will love this.

Personally I reckon it to be better than (nearly) every bottled beer I've ever bought, I could happily drown in it... :D

Dunno about the chinook in the the ipa kit, but I can recommend that the better brew IPA is a really good kit. Probably the best kit I made to date (only done about 6 kits to compare between all, but this is the one that has the most taste, no homebrew taste, and just a really good all round pint).

Thanks lovelldr,

I noticed you are in Leics. Have you found a LHBS?

Closest proper lhbs is matchless homebrew in Coalville. There's another in Earl Shilton I think. But both are too far away from me (over 30 min drive). So, the closest I have is a chemist in Syston who stock a few kits, some dme, and a few other little bits and pieces, and can order some stuff in if needed. More expensive than online, but cheaper if just want the one kit without p&p charges...

Where shots in Leics are you based?

I'm in Glenfield. Both Wilkinsons and now Tesco at Beaumont Leys have a reasonable amount of kits and equipment. Mostly Youngs and Coopers stuff.

Yeah,I noticed Tesco had a few more bits in than last time I went. Also good for when you get a £5 off 40 voucher :)

Matchless homebrew isn't top far from Greenfield tho (20 mins), so for any other extras you needed. I'm closer to Loughborough, so almost doubles journey time...

Art of brewing have some decent prices, with low value for free delivery, do next shop might use them... It's just being in four delivery person, damn work, hehe
