I think for my next brew I'm going to investigate the world of water treatment. I've set my sights on a Salifert Alkalinity test kit, and will have a test beforehand so I roughly know how much gypsum, CRS etc I need to order for the beer style, which will be a stout this time round. However I keep reading that you need to treat all the water together at the CRS stage. My problem is that my boiler is only 30 litres, and I commonly need to use 38 litres of water per brew, topping up the kettle after the mash has started.
Would it be possible for me to treat the 30l in one go, and keep the 8 litres aside and treat that separately or is the quantity too small to get an accurate measure of CRS for it?
