Hello everyone.
I have worked out the ABV on my latest invention to be 5.9pc. then I bottled, with about 5g brewing sugar in each 500ml bottle. Does that change my ABV?
And, as an aside, this is a higher ABV than usual... Does that mean my extraction has improved?

Yes it will be higher due to the yeast eating the sugar and yes your Brew House Efficiency was better.
That's good news... My satellite dish sparging device is working wonders. I'll post a pic! So how do I work out the actual ABV? Cask condition and FG upon bottling?

That's over 3.3 volumes of carbonation, what I do for wheat beers and about the same level as coke. It'll add about 0.6% abv but it doesn't mean your extraction has improved if it wasn't part of the original calculations.

This is a stronger beer than I have previously made from the same recipe based on the hydrometer readings, so if my extraction hasn't improved where does the extra ABV come from? I'm not including any in bottle ferm in my working out!

So 1 volume of carbonation means in a litre of beer you'd have a litre of co2 dissolved in it for the fizz. Take a look at the link and there are guidelines for different styles of beers. 3.3 volumes would cause old men to get the conniptions and shout "I wanted a pint of beer, not to float around the room like I'm in bloody Charlie and the Chocolate Factory."

It's an ale I've made before, I don't really know what style it is but it's the same colour as speckled hen, slightly stronger and hoppier. And it isn't 'thin' like SH. Not sure what means the beer is! Last time I used carb drops, so I didn't have to measure.
 
If you're OG increased with the same amount of malt then you got better extraction efficiency. Higher OG would give higher abv, but higher abv could also come from the yeast hitting a lower FG with the same OG.

3.3 vols is going to be lively...
