That makes 5 bottles + 1/5 of a bottle to drink tonight. It tastes pretty amazing to be honest now it's been back sweetened. Its a little hazy though but no pectolase in this.

Thanks,

Ben.

Had you added any finings to assist the clearing process? Often a little KwikKlear will work wonders.

Other than that looks good

Yeah I used vin-something, it was pretty clear when I started bottling but my skills with a syphon need improving to not get the sediment, I racked it first, left it 12 hours then bottled. I actually impressed because I had visions of it looking like cloudy lemonade before it cleared.

Did you rack to a second DJ then degas, add stabiliser and finings?

How long did you give the fining to work before bottling?

I racked, degassed and then added finings a week ago, then racked again yesterday, bottled today

Ahh in that respect there's a few ways you can go, that will help.

Racking before bottling can help, it'll mean if you have a wee slip with the syphon, only a little fresh sediment will get in, so next time you syphon, there's less of it to get in. Have a look for a siphoning stick and a bottle clip, to assist you. And never try to get every last drop, it's better to loose half a pint of wine and have clear bright wines, than trying to get every drop that ends up cloudy.

Allowing the bottles to stand a few days will work wonders often, if you drink the sediment it won't kill you, think of cloudy cider, it's the same stuff.

Finally there's wine filters, because of the cost of the filter it's often more economic to do a few Demi johns at the same time. Start with your lightest coloured wine, then move Demi john by demi John getting darker each time, so you don't suffer from colour contamination.

Main thing is enjoy what you make,

Thanks spud, I had six bottles worth in the beginning bit ended up losing about a pint over the course of racking, also I didn't add any pectolase. The juices I used has some pulp/puree in them so could that have also caused this? I'm not really bothered because its just going to be me and a couple friends who drinks it, not going into a competition or anything haha

Another thing, although the wine tastes pretty good it has this smell to it, not a bad smell but a overly fruity, generally unacceptable smell, of you know what I mean?

I'd leave it a while to condition, maybe ask a few questions. All wines, even the bottles you have will improve with age. But ask about, someone may have more of an idea.

The other thing you can do to improve it if you must drink soon is pop it in the fridge. Those esters that make the smells are less active as it gets chilled.

Thanks, in wanting to leave it just making sure that leaving it will make it better haha

One of the best buys i made was a bucket clip, you can also use them on a DJ and it makes syphoning much less of a hassle as it helps stop the end of the syphon tube moving.

Too later now

I added a length of syphon tube to the tap so that it goes to the bottom of the bottle, this allows you more room for movement without it pulling on the clip and moving the trap in the sediment,.
