There has been quite a lot of negative stuff about A.I in the press, does the fact some experts are saying A.I could become self aware worry you?

Can AI become self aware?
The CEO of Alphabet's DeepMind said there's a possibility that AI could become self-aware one day.
This means that AI would have feelings and emotions that mimic those of humans.

That is a very good point, my son works part time at a big supermarket and it has been mentioned many times that if it wasn't for people not liking self serve tills they would probably only have a couple of manned tills, as time goes bye i am sure manned tills will be a thing of the past.

I drive a wagon for a living fortunately i will be long retired or pushing up daisies before driverless wagons take over my job, joking aside i do believe at some point driverless wagons will take most of them.

Less workers required in the future. Now how can you reduce the population to remove the 'useless eaters'?

I think this is one of those things where we don't really fully understand where it could lead, the possibilities could be worrying if worst case scenarios are actually possible leading to dystopian sci-fi type outcomes, but that might not even be possible. If it did happen, it might not even have to happen accidentally. AI at the moment is just good at mimicking or appearing to have self awareness, is there a point that this could pass a tipping point or will it always remain as just imitation.

We have supermarkets here which only have self serve but the staff who were on the checkouts now perform other duties. No matter how many jobs are lost there always seems to be new jobs to take their place. The four day week looks like being approved here so more leisure time and more jobs created.

Yes, this has been the case since the industrial revolution when machines replaced repetitive manual work.

The four day week looks like being approved here so more leisure time and more jobs created.

The refuse collectors in the next town (different council ) moved to a four day week but they still do a 38 hour week, the only reason the employees could think of was it saved the council paying overtime for bank holiday working, this wasn't to give them more leasure time or to create more jobs.

The ones on the four day week here work 32 hours a week, it won't be long before 4 day week is mainstream, so it will create jobs for those businesses who are active 7 days a week.
Cant wait for this checkout system I believe Amazon uses this or similar.

It'll be a problem for sure. It will devalue knowledge jobs not just manual ones.
And I doubt it will create anywhere near enough jobs to replace them, and what will people do with all the leisure time, but no money?

Exactly, we are going to have more people getting benefit but less people earning a wage to pay for it, I don't see how this can work.

I don't think there is a shortage of workers for these jobs now, supermarkets have worked 7 days a week and some 24 hours a day for years with no problem.

You have to think outside the square. While jobs are lost new businesses are created, its perpetual.

AI will probably/hopefully spark another Industrial Revolution.

But as we've seen wit the internet it will probably be exploited by those with an agenda and used for a force for evil rather than good.
