MORNING ALL
Jst got a couple of question that i hope some of you might be able to answer. Im goint to start on my stout kit this afternoon and i was going to put a couple of sticks of liquorish wood in the FV. but i read somewhere last night that someone once added some coffee to give it a bit of flavor. i think it was in one of tubbys posts or he might of mentioned it in chat. I was a bit pi**ed last night so cant remember where i saw it :( .

And the other question is, - is anyone out ther using the pressure barell that you can get at WILKINSONS? my daughters are going to get me one for farthers days. and i just wanted to find out if its any good. if not ill get them to buy me some more kits.

thaks in advance for any feedback / comments / advice

DS

Can't help on the stout side of things,

But pressure barrel! I have the budget barrel and its fine had no problems! the one at Wilko's has no s30 valve, which means you'll not be able to add pressure! wilkos so do a seprate lid with the bulb type co2 but these end up costing £££ best to get one that takes the large refillable c02 bottles costs about £5 to refill a bottle and lasts a while!!!! Wilkos charge £17.99 for the barrel and £15.99 for the lid with bulb adapter!!!! you can get the barrels with a s30 valve in the lid elsewhere for around £25!

Not me with the coffee mate, that was muddydisco :thumb:
Just to echo what dandan said the budget barrels are fine but if you want to drink more than two pints in one session you are going to need to add gas and an S30 canister and valve are the way to go initially :thumb:
Check out our sponsors and see what they've got ;)

thanks all for the advice.

hiya MD
sorry about the mix up  . so did you just add the pre-made ground coffee to the fv. if so how much did you add and how did it turn out.

DS

I brewed up 45g of ground Costa rican coffee in 500ml of boiling water Strained out all nasty crud using coffee filter. Then let it cool and added this to the FV before Fermentation.
As to how it's turned out... It's not matured fully yet but there is a nice coffee after taste to the Stout Think it could do with more to get the flavour into the body of the beer.

Thanks dandan for the advice about the pressure barrel. :thumb: Going to take a trip to matchless saturday to get one.

And thanks TS for the info about the coffee. Im going to add some to my stout, but im going to double up on the amount that you used. Hopefully it will turn out ok.

With the pressure barrel it's best to go for a 4" lid as you can get your hands in them so they are easier to clean. ;)

They are easier to clean but, harsher on the pocket (you can get two budget kegs for about the cost of a King Keg), I'm going to see if I can fit a barrel float (from my cracked boots keg) into my budget keg when its empty!!
