Hi All,

My 5l Demijohn is due to come free next week.
I've got some spare odds and sods i'd like to use up.
I've got about a kilo of Light DME that I figure would serve as a base.
I was thinking of adding a 400g tin on Golden Syrup to that.
I've got a heap of hops doing nothing; some Cascade, some Amarillo, some Citra and some EKG.

I can get anything from a supermarket that might be useful, but I don't have a LHBS to get anything homebrewy (i do big orders monthly).

I was thinking perhaps an orange peel pale ale or something of the like.

Anyone got any advice?
 
Any advice on quantities?
I'm planning a bigger Candied Orange IPA in the not too distant future, so it would be good practice.
 
For a 5l batch 1kg of DME light will give you an sg of 1.070 which is in IPA territory and if you were to add the GS it would be 1.100 giving around 10.5% abv assuming you're using US05.
Skip the GS and using the DME add 10g of EKG at 60 mins boil, 10g of Amarillo and Citra at 10 mins and then add your orange peel at flameout and allow to cool.
The EKG shall be your bittering hops with the Amarillo complementing the orange peel and citra adding the added zing with its citrus aroma.
Just a thought.

How much Orange Peel should I be using?
Also, should i not boil the Orange at least for a little while to Sanitize it?
Finally is that 10g each of Amarillo and Citra or 10g total?

I'll just be using a leftover packet of ambiguous 'Ale Yeast' from a kit (6g).

10g each and place the orange peel at flameout and let it sit for 20mins as this will kill of any nasties and help extract the flavour from the peel.I would use the peel from 1 orange a sweet blood orange if possible or failing that a sweet orange.
It's not a proven recipe but shall give you an idea of what you can achieve with very little.
