York is not just for Christmas, it's good (great) all year round.
Never been to York and yet have a burning desire to visit the place. Don't know why! Deffo on the bucket list. And to raise a glass to Tess of the dangly-ticklers, of course. Christmas markets, though, have degenerated into rip-off events. Still hoping to get to Strasbourg though (even though it's nowhere near York).
Whatever happened to @alsacebrew

Yes you must visit York full of wonderful drinking dens, i remember on one of my biking adventures in 86 staying in St Malo for a couple of days at the local camping site and visiting Murpheys bar, then i stayed here https://talesfrombrittany.com/why-visit-la-gacilly-brittany-france/ for a week and met some wonderful people, first night i strolled into a local bar got a beer and sat down next thing a glass with a measure landed on the table with a jug of water there were 2 old guys at the bar who looked like farmers yes i learned how to drink poor mans pernod pastis 51, i duly bought them one, long story short i had a good night waddled back to the tent and slept till dinner time

Sounds like you had a great time. I've been to Saint-Malo many times as the outlaws used to have a flat within walking distance. Don't recall therr being a Murpheys bar within the walls though. But much has changed in 40 years and it's now a tourist trap.
Interesting you should attach a link to La Gacilly as that's more than than an hour's drive away. It's well worth a visit, though, especially outside the summer season.
Here's an interesting one:

Interestingly, my wife, who is French, used to visit York regularly when she lived Up North.

York is wonderful and the Christmas market is good. I go every year and it is right in the centre and really busy.
Plenty to do in York the Museums are very good especially the Castle Museum fantastic for adults and children with its Victorian street and shops.
