Now then...

I have chosen a recipe I would like to try for my first brew (malt extract and hops) but the ingredients are for 5 1/2 gallons (25 litres) of beer and I only have a 5 gallon fermentation bucket. As I have no previous brewing experience I'm not sure if I can squeeze in another half gallon safely? I'm pretty sure it'll fit in but I am not sure how much head room I need to leave and if this will effect fermentation? :hmm:

If not, what is the easiest way to convert the recipe? Can it be done proportionally? :drink:

Yes, you can just reduce it all proportionately. I'd just knock 10% off everything, not quite precisely right I know but easiest to calculate.

Alternatively, you can squeeze it in but there's a risk the first stages of fermentation will erupt over the top of your FV.
