27 litre boilers in lidl

our local lidl has the jam making boilers in stock
these are around £35 and i know people have used them for brewing they hole 27L
[i cant find a link on the webpage]

I bought one last year for boiling down the first runnings for a Scottish heavy. They are not bad come down by a fiver I see. :thumb: :thumb:

They are boilers with quite a smart temp controller and timer. Great for a boil.

i had a look on the website ..couldnt see em,
but the store had around 10 in on sunday....i was in there for their barvarian smoked cheese...

there are posts on here and jims about the use of them...

Search the forum quite a lot has been posted about them over the last few years.

I have not used mine for a full boil but I do use it to reduce and caramalise the first runnings which may be a hour's worth of boiling. I also use it to boil and sterilise wort for yeast starters.

TBH they usually sell them in summer for jam making so it may be a bit early for them yet. :thumb:

I think I have one of these, bought a year or so ago from Lidl. check the power, if its 1800W then it will struggle to boil 27L, normally home made boilers use 2 x 2.2Kw elements. I have lagged/insulated my boiler with an old yoga mat which improves the thermal properties of the boiler.

My boiler only has (currently) ONE 2K2 element in it. I haven't transferred the other (1K7) element over to my SS boiler from my old placy one.
It boils 6.5Gal of wort happily. (what ever that is in L)

I used to use the SS one on gas, but not used it for several years so converted it to electric about 3 months ago.

Can I assume your element is larger than 1.8Kw?
