24L Mash tun capacity

Hi,

Please don't say 24L
Other than trial and error, is there anyone that can share their experience of how much grain a 24L mashtun can take? I know this is a questions with a few variables but I want to use 7kg grain will it be acase of just adding liquor as required?

You should be OK for 7Kg of grain in that. I used to use a 30L fermenter and get about 10-11Kg and about 23-24L of liquor in too. Theres probably a calculator about somewhere but I reckon if you start with 7Kg grain and 17L liquor you can get an idea of the limits.

7Kg of Grain with 14 Litres of water will take up just under 19 Litres of space.

You will probably need to fly sparge as batch sparging could be an issue, I'm not 100% sure though as I don't batch sparge.
