I'm looking at getting a mash tun made and boiler converted in preparation for my first AG and had always assumed I'd be doing 23l batches. However, there seem to be quite a few brewers who do 48l batches. I'm guessing there's not a lot more effort required with the larger brew (apart perhaps from bottling) so should I be looking at equipment that'll do a 48l batch?

(I realise there is no correct answer but was hoping for a nudge one way or the other.)

I do 55l and want to do 70l not much more effort just a bit longer getting things to boil and cool down. 55l takes me about 6-7 hrs

Do you brew for vareity or for the same brews on a regular basis.? The answer to that is the best option you should go down.

Also the amount of time you can get to brew comes into play, if you can only brew every other month then a bigger setup should be built, but if you have plenty of time at hand build small brew alot and have lots of beers to chose from.

My brewery has a boiler of 50 litres, which is fine as you can do a 40 litre brew with a bit of liquoring back.

However I have got a 100litre pot to convert to another boiler so will be doing up to 80 litres in 1 go for the beers that enjoy the most
