Hi,

My understanding of bottle conditioning is that you need a 'warm week' for the secondary fermentation to take place and then a few 'cold weeks' to clear your beer down.

I batch primed and bottled my first ever kit brew at the weekend (takes a while the first time!) and it's now in the cupboard under a duvet for it's 'warm week'. My question is what kind of temperature does it need to be for the cold stage when you're clearing the beer down? I guess the answer to how long does it take is how long's a piece of string, but I'm hoping to crack a few out at Christmas!

It's a Milestone IPA kit if that helps?

Thanks,

Ron.

yes the time to clear will vary substansially depending on several factors. Anything under 10c is good for cold conditioning. :thumb:

I live in a 4th floor flat and don't have any outside space or a spare room, there's nowhere cold enough! Could I condition them in the fridge?

is there any lower limit on temperature? I have two batches in the garage right now - they were kept in the hot press for 10 days or so then moved to the garage - i'm just worried the cold snap may have ruined them.

I have observed that some sugars falling out of the strawberry ribenna wine that's also in the garage
