The woodford Wherry is in the bucket at last. Thanks for the how to's on here, they've been really good.

So cleaned then steralised everything, all set out on the kitchen side to start when I realised that I had no way to get the water from the tap! Looked round and spotted the jug. Put the kettle on and had a cuppa, back upstairs to start steralising again.

I know now to steralise everything I could possibly want to use at once next time

Good luck with the brew - I am sure it will turn out ok.
I find that getting organised up front is of immense help. Also try and pick a time when you are unlikely to be disturbed by family, friends or work. Make sure everything is to hand. Don't go ahead if anything major is missing, unless there is a suitable substitute available.
Let us know how it goes - relax - don't worry - be happy .....

Its day 7 today, does this go on producing co2 indefinately? If I put any pressure on the FV lid bubbles come out of the airlock even if I emptied it all earlier this morning by pressing onto it. Is it time to start measuring it?

Bought number 2 beer that I'd like to set going next weekend if the FV will be free.

it will come out the airlock if you press on the lid. If you think fermentation is nearly finished check gravity daily when you get the same reading for 2 or 3 days its finished and needs bottling

I usually wait until a week then stick my sanitised hydrometer in the fv and leave it in there. Take a reading every day and if it's near to what the f.g should be for the kit and/or it's been constant for 3 days then go ahead and bottle it

as its reading 1030 I think I've got a stuck Wherry so I'm following the advice on the how to to see if I can get it going again. Should it take a week from restarting? Should I take the Hydrometer out while it ferments again.

How long has it been fermenting? if you think its stuck stir gently with sterile spoon and warm it up. If that doesnt work you might want to think about adding another yeast

I've sent for another yeast as per the how to section but I didn't think about stiring and warming it up. I've had it at about 20deg and today is day eight. It seemed to be very active up to about day 3 and then its just as if its almost but not entirley stopped since then.

What's a good temperature to warm it up to. I've got a stick on temperature reader about 1/2 way up the FV and I'm using a heating belt on a timer

If its been 8 days it might have finished. 20 deg c sounds fine. Maybe another yeast wont do any good. I would leave it another 2 days then check with hydrometer if its still the same you will just have to bottle it

If it's reading 1.030 after 8 days then it has to be the famous Wherry STICK :D It should get down to 1.014(ish) Mine went to 1.018. As Wendy suggested earlier get a long handled spoon or paddle and give it a very very very gentle stir. MAKE SURE WHAT YOU USE TO STIR IT WITH IS STERILIZED, SANITIZED ANY OTHER FORM OF IZED YOU CAN THINK OF before doing so :thumb:

Thank you, will give it a go this afternoon, after the green tomato chutney making session.

I've gradually warmed the FV up over the last few days and tonight I steralised a spoon and gave it a very gentle stir. Its just blown the top off of the air lock, now put back on, so I'm hopeful that it may be starting again.

Sent for back up spare yeast and conditioner just in case it doesn't work though.
