Not terribly exicting news but I have just barelled up my first 5 gals of homebrew ( Youngs bitter ) which has been fermenting away for 2 weeks. Genuinely nice chap from round the corner loaned me a spare keg ( Daryl_crossley on here ) and donated bottle of lager to taste as well :drink: :thumb:
I didn't take a gravity reading when I mixed it all up, partly because I smashed the bottom out of the Hydrometer whilst sterilising my kit although I would have omitted to do so even if I hadn't
Anyway, checked the gravity with my replacement and it looked almost bang on 1000. boiled up some demerara sugar - guestimated 85g - in a little water, into the keg with that, syphoned the beer on top and sealed it with cap which has a valve in it. I'll prolly get some C02 for when the level starts dropping as there was still a tiny bit of fermentation still going on so should pressurise the keg a bit ?
Do I now put the keg somewhere cool and dark until its time to sample it and is there ANY way I can measure the strength having missed the first gravity reading ?
Thanks in advance.
