Hi

I've a feeling that 1kg of enhancer isn't the same as using brew sugar or table sugar in terms of increasing ABV, am I right ?

Just wondered as I'm doing a 2 can kit of Wilko feeling hoppy, but I think as it's a 2 can kit , a kilo of enhancer will hit the spot once bottle conditioned

Thank you everyone

As I understand it beer enhancer should produce a similar amount of alcohol as sugar, but is generally used to avoid the thinning and drying effects of fermenting a comparatively large amount of sugar vs malt extract in a typical kit. If you are doubling up by using 2 cans of Feeling Hoppy together, then I wouldn't think you will need any more body in the beer and would just add some brewing sugar if you want to increase the ABV. It should be pretty strong (maybe around 7%) if you make 40 pints with 2 kits and a kilo of sugar.

Beer enhancer is 50/50 spray malt and dextrose if I remember correctly, normally I take the view it’s better to use malt over sugar however as someone pointed out to me a while back sometimes all malt can be a little too heavy or malty for their taste and for an IPA I would be tempted to say it might benefit from a little sugar to thin it out slightly.
