Hi Everyone,

Does anybody know if its ok to use VWP in a stainless steel stock pot? The tub says its ok for cutlery but nowt about pots and pans?

Cheers,

My thought would be,

Which part of your brewery are you planning on cleaning with VWP, your HLT, Mash Tun and boiler do not require sanitising, the only other large stock pot may be a fermenter if you are using a stock pot for fermenting, in which case I think I would get some starsan.

Cheers guys,

I'll probably give it a miss if its gonna damage the pot. Steve, its a very good question. In fact, its not part of the brewery at all, its the biggest cleanest vessel Ive got at the moment for sterilising loads of gubbins in. I only have one FV atm and its full. I'll find something else to use.

Dont use it in ss it causes pitting over time
Chlorine based cleansers are fine to use on stainless steel. Just use the correct concentration for the correct time.

Chloride Pitting is much more of a problem and the fact that people often get confused between the two is down to the fact that 'supermarket' bleaches are often thickened with Sodium Chloride. They then get crevice pitting and blame it on the chlorine, when it's actually something else.

I have stored a working solution of Antiformin S (a Chlorinated Caustic with added Sequesterant) in a corny for well over a year (*) . . . No pitting at all

(*) I have a lot of cornelii and was not brewing that often . . . It got forgot about
