Can I save my pale ale ?

I had this problem with a keg of Wherry a few weeks back, I had to have it ready for a party and there was no pressure in the barrel with just 10 days to go. Usual problem with overtightening distorting the O ring. I re-primed and bottled it, and then hoped for the best. It improved massively...

    Coopers, English Bitter

I'm on to the last bottle of a 23 litre brew of this and it's been a very nice beer indeed. I added the recommended 500g of spray malt and was surprised to find it had a low OG of 1030, but it came down quite a lot to a FG of 1006, so with priming it should have come out at about 3.5%. It...

    Homebrew shelf life

Aye I'm going through the remains of a batch of Wherry as quick as I can because I poured it directly into the keg after fermentation, adding a lot of air. It's turned out pretty well, all things considered, but I understand from reading around on here that if left too long it could turn stale...

    Homebrew shelf life

OK so what you're saying is I'd better get my Coopers English Bitter (OG 1030, FG 1006) drank pretty quickly then? Aye aye, sir! :drink: When you say "oxidised", do you mean the beer has been exposed to excessive amounts of air, or just any beer that hasn't been brewed in a closed system? I...

    Homebrew shelf life

Most commercial beers come with a best before date nowadays, and I've found that drinking them past this date can be like playing Russian roulette with your guts. We all know that with homebrew the general rule is the longer you leave it, the better it'll be. But surely there must be a turning...

No sign of carbonation in pressure barrel after 2 weeks

Well, I'm happy to report that the beer when down a treat amongst the guests at the party last night. It's still not quite as carbonated as I would have liked but it's a hell of a lot better than it was before I bottled it. Considering just how much went wrong during the brewing of this beer...

    Brewing 1 can kits short

Yeah I think you mean brew short to 20 litres (rather than pints!), as opposed to the 23 litres they usually recommend on the can. I've done two Coopers 1 can kits to 23l and have found that, while nice, they both could have benefited from a higher ABV, so I'm planning on doing the one can kits...

No sign of carbonation in pressure barrel after 2 weeks

I think I must have over tightened it - when removed, it was all distorted, and when I tried re-tightening it again after straightening it, it distorted again. I didn't realise it was possible to over-tightened... would have assumed the tighter the better! Might try again sometime and stop...

No sign of carbonation in pressure barrel after 2 weeks

Oh, that's encouraging. I'd read that there would still need to be a certain amount of fermentation going on at this point for re-priming to be effective, so hopefully there's still some yeasties at work in the pressure barrel. I think I'm going to go with the bottle method to be on the safe...

No sign of carbonation in pressure barrel after 2 weeks

Hi all, I have had 23 litres of Woodforde's Wherry priming in a Wilko pressure barrel for nearly two weeks now, after 10 days in the fermenter, so it's about three weeks old in total. This is my third ever brew, first in the barrel, and although I know it's still very green, I've tried my...

    Woodfordes Wherry Review

I have a Wherry in the pressure barrel at the moment. Brewed to 23 litres, in FV for 10 days 'til it got down to 1014 from 1042, then transferred to the barrel with 90g white sugar. Tried it yesterday after around 12 days in the barrel. Of course, it's still very young, so it's still cloudy...

    Wilkinsons Golden Ale

How old is your brew, goldenone? Mine was in the FV for around 8 days and has been in the bottle for 12 now and I still have a LOT of cloudiness, and there's debris rising from the bottom of each bottle with the slightest movement. Hoping I haven't messed up somewhere.

    Hello to you

Hi all! I've just signed up as I was sat here drinking a Wilko Golden Ale, and as it was on my mind I Googled it and that led me here! You seem like lovely bunch so I thought I'd get involved. I'm still pretty much a newbie, my brother bought me a Coopers IPA starter kit in August and that led...

    Wilkinsons Golden Ale

I'm sat sampling my first bottle of this after 12 days conditioning (early, I know, but it's for science!) and I'm definitely getting honey too! I was reading this thread and joined up just to say! It does seem very sweet, almost cloying. I think I'll give it another week or so before trying...
