    First ever Brew :-)

I started out with coopers and have done an Irish stout, woodfords wherry, and now a wheat. It is a fantastic start kit, I have gotten a lot of great reviews, especially since I tweaked the recipes a bit. My stout looked very similar to what you have posted there.

    Bottle Rinsing

I'll echo on what everyone else said. Mine works like a champ.

    Frozen yeast still good?

Thanks, I'll give that a try on my next stout. I should probably have a backup just in case.

    Frozen yeast still good?

As I was cleaning out the fridge today I noticed a forgotten packet of Irish Stout Wyeast. Upon further inspection, the packet turned out to be 3/4 of the way frozen. As far as I know the small capsule inside the pouch was undisturbed as the packet itself was not swollen when thawed. Is this...

    Happy new brewer

Welcome Catlynn. You are not the only one from America on this board, I just happen to live in the UK. Considering where I live, I wish I had the local resources here like we do in the states. There are a lot of great people with sound advice on this board so don't hesitate to ask.

    Gearing up for AG Brewing.

Us Americans just love our turkey fryers. Screw that, for a price equivalent to 37 quid, I grab this to use as a boiling unit. As an added bonus it came with a thermometer and spigot already attached. I am going to fire it up this weekend to see how fast it gets to a boil and to see how well...

    Gearing up for AG Brewing.

I have had a few buddies that used the braided hoses before with no problems. I have also heard of folks using SS safety wire, coiled up and inserted into the tube to prevent collapse. I'll write a "I probably should have listened to you guys" reply if I run into any problems.

    Gearing up for AG Brewing.

My first real commitment towards AG brewing, a mash tun. I got most of the parts in the U.S. since my father is a plumber there, best of all it was at the right price, free! The cooler was of the cheaper variety, but works well based on several reviews. Push comes to shove I can wrap it in a...

    Coopers Wheat Beer Review

Going to brew up the kit this weekend. I plan on using lemon zest and coriander. Those who did the orange zest, stupid question but how long did you boil the zest/crushed coriander? I am guessing you just pitch it into the FV while mixing everything? For some reason I only ordered 500g of the...

    Woodfordes Wherry Review

I got a lot of great reviews from this one. I primed with wilkos brewing sugar and I must say, turned out fantastic.

Mikey G's First Brew (Irish Stout) w/ Pics

I saw a few builds via YouTube including the one you mentioned and decided to go with the one above. One thing you do not see is the stainless steel "safety wire" that was coiled and inserted into the braided tube so the grains do not flatten the tube itself.

Mikey G's First Brew (Irish Stout) w/ Pics

It's been quite awhile. The stout went real fast, I got great reviews from my friends. The most popular G-Stout was the one conditioned with brewing sugar, followed by carbonation drops, then the muscovado. I thought the muscovado was going to be the best, but it really left an alcoholy after...

woodfordes wherry beer kit approx abv 4.5%

This is my second kit brew. I started on Sunday, ended up with an OG sitting at about 1.040. A day after pitching the yeast the batch never really took off. I had a decent krausen ring by day 2, but on day three now there is nearly nothing. It was sitting at about 26 degrees for the first...

Mikey G's First Brew (Irish Stout) w/ Pics

Whew I have been busy as of late. I bottled/primed on the 8th of October! I primed 15 bottles with the carbonation drops, 15 with brewing sugar, and 14 with muscovado sugar, all 1/2 teaspoon each. I know I still have a ways to go as far as priming goes, but I could not help but try at least...

Mikey G's First Brew (Irish Stout) w/ Pics

Day 6 the gravity read in at 1.013 which puts the stout at about 4% so far. It tasted fantastic! I cannot wait to try this brew when its done!

    Another Coopers stout

Nice! I also recently did a Coopers kit, but it was an Irish Stout. I didn't originally plan on using a dark muscovado sugar, but the local sainsbury didnt have treacle. When i removed the Krausen ring, the batch smelled amazing, I cannot wait to try it. Definitely let us know how it tastes.

I was looking for treacle at the local Sainsbury, but they did not have it stocked. I saw the dark muscovado instead and decided to give it a go!

Thank you both for your suggestions and advice. When bottling, I may experiment with the batch and try a few with granulated sugar, a few with carbonation drops, and a few with muscovado sugar. the-erl, I am not sure if Ritchies Dark Spray Malt is hopped or not, but I will keep that advice...
