    Quick question re CRS

Does it have a shelf life? I think mine is 3-4 years old and just wondering whether it will have lost its effectiveness? I did a quick search and even the manufacturer has no mention of shelf life on their website.. Thanks

    Hamilton gas burner flame

It was all going so well... Had 20 litres of water in the boiler to test for leaks and to burn off more of that black powder. It got up to the boil and I lifted the lid off and the most piercing noise in the world started. Looked up and there was a heat detector above me linked in to my pubs...

    Hamilton gas burner flame

All sorted, gap adjusted and now the flame is a nice shade of blue! Let the testing begin...

    Hamilton gas burner flame

I put my hand round the edge of the ring and the flame died down a bit. Is it more or less of a gap that I need?

    Hamilton gas burner flame

Am in the final stretches of setting up my upgraded all shiny brewery but have a quick query... I have bought the standard Large Gas Burner from gas products with a 4.5kg/hr 37mbar regulator but I don't think its burning right. The flame is roughly 8-9 inches tall but it's all yellow with only...

Has this been done before or will it go wrong?

For my boiler I wanted the tap raised up a bit due to a paranoia about the tap getting too hot from being licked by the gas flame. I have got the bazooka hop filter, screwed into a 90 degree 1/2inch, which is in turn screwed into another which then has a parallel nipple, through the pot and...

    Is my tun too big?

Shows how good my maths is! I'm tempted to just go 70L boiler from the off despite not using to full capacity as the price difference in the pots is negligible and future proofs me in case I wanted to do larger batches down the line. Looking forward to using it in anger in the new year

    Is my tun too big?

I've recently received and converted a 50L thermobox into a bottom draining tun and am awaiting a false bottom for it. Haven't decided on a boiler yet but have a 50L HLT with elements fitted. The end goal is to brew 46L batches to fit two cornies at a time but then I thought that a 50l mash tun...

    Just got a 50L thermobox

Just received a thermo pot from Germany and am now itching to get going on its conversion to a mashtun. One thing I have noticed is there are quite a lot of scratches on the surface of the inside of the pot. Not too deep as to feel with a fingernail but still a scratch. Is this normal? Is there...

    fermenting vessel

It's not vital to have an airlock but its a convenient way to let the CO2 out while its fermenting. It's useful to see when the fermentation is slowing down by watching the bubbles. I assume you just leave the lid slightly unclipped on your fermenting bin? I'm sure you'll be fine the way...

    fermenting vessel

My guess would be that it is an airlock/bubbler. This should be filled with water or sanitiser to allow the CO2 to escape but not allowing nasties to get in. EDIT: like this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7CLUzGeCo4

    Electrical guru's help please!!

The wiring goes - crimp connectors to twin and earth cable, through cable gland to RCD plug from B and Q. Seems a fairly standard unit, 30mA 13amp rating. The wiring in my brewing room is fairly heavy duty and has its own rcd in the consumer unit which isnt tripping. The boiler was the only...

    Electrical guru's help please!!

Got everything ready for my brewday today on my new 10gallon HERMs set up. Water treated and ready to heat to strike temp... Then boom.. boiler RCD goes click. I fear the worst but see that its only a blown fuse, replace it, and click. Blown another fuse. It's a quality element, the pigtail one...
