    Element back nut.

Yeah I got the collar off and I tried a brass nut from screwfix. I reckon it’s not a standard thread as the new nut doesn’t quite fit. I’ll keep looking and if all else fails I’ll have to buy another element. Thanks for the help.

    Element back nut.

Hi, My hlt has started leaking at the element. The collar that holds it in place is old and worn and won’t fully tighten. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement, or even better the metal nut that I have on my boil pot? Cheers M

    Oak barrel aging

Thanks chaps, The instructions say it will take beer, but I might just stick whisky in it. I don't really want to ferment the beer then put it the barrel. It doesn't seem big enough to make it worthwhile. If I do put whisky or other spirits in the barrel How long does it take to 'take the...

    Oak barrel aging

Hi, I got a small oak barrel for Chrimbo, it is designed for aging your beer or spirts etc, and give your drink an oaky flavour. Does anybody else have one or have used one of these before? The instructions are a bit vague. I would of thought by pouring beer into it the beer would go flat, or...

    LME sticking to the element

Hi, I'm going to brew a partial extract porter at the weekend. I normally do this in a big pan on the hob, but I have a new boil pot with an element in it. I'm slightly concerned that when I add the lme it'll stick to the element. Also the element will make stirring it in a bit tricky. Should...

First AG ever making a Black IPA

Cheers for all that, really useful. I think I will reduce the chocolate malt by half so 0.5kg. I have some special b left over, will that work if added in a small amount? Maybe 0.5kg Hop wise, I think I have some Northern Brewer as well. So I'll add them for the boil. 30-35g will take the IBU...

First AG ever making a Black IPA

Hi, I'm going to do my first all grain beer in a few weeks. So right now I'm trying to get a recipe sorted. I think I'm going to make a black IPA style beer. I've been messing around with the brewers friend software and I have this as a rough recipe. est batch 20.8litres 4kg Golden...

    Youngs yorkshire bitter kit

So I made the kit last night. I put in 1kg of dextrose, 600g of Demerara and 100g (ish) of light DME. Just used up some open packets basically. Gave me a OG of 1056 so if I get to the target gravity the kit recommends it'll be around 6.7%. Probs a bit strong but as I said, I'm just using stuff up.

    New element

Hi, I'm looking to buy a 2.4kw element for my HLT. Does any one know of a supplier. I tried the copper kettle store but they have sold out. A lot of the others seem to only stock 1.5kw. Cheers M

    Youngs yorkshire bitter kit

Cheers. I'll probs brew it short and use a mix of dme and dextrose. I don't usually do kit beers as I do partial extract. But, I've just up scaled all my kit to all grain. Trying to buy a 2.4kw element for my hlt. So in the mean time I thought I'd make this kit. M

    Youngs yorkshire bitter kit

I was thinking about whether the different sugars would effect flavour. M

    AG recipe

Looks good. I'm looking to do my first ag soon. Just need a new element for my HLT. I'm confused by the mash on your recipe. Do you need to add more water after the allotted time, or empty out the old water and replace the water? M

    Youngs yorkshire bitter kit

Hi, I have a youngs yorkshire bitter kit I am going to knock up. I've never used this kit before, or any youngs kit for that matter. Are they any good? The recipe calls for 1.5kg of sugar. I was thinking of 1kg of brewing sugar and the rest denemara or DME. Maybe even a tad more to give...

    Langdale

I'll drop the brewery an email. Cheers, it never crossed my mind to do that. I would of thought that the recipes would be a guarded secret.

    Langdale

Hi, Today in the Lake District I tried a CLA langdale beer. It is a golden ale with Maris otter and larger hops. Does anybody have a clone recipe for this beer or something similar? Cheers M

    King keg cap

It might just be a youngs pressure barrel actually. Haven't used it for a few years. I've just always called it a king keg M
