So last night I checked on my batch of bitter, which has been neglected for the holidays. The hydrometer read 1.000 exactly. Once I'd gotten over the initial reaction of "Wow, cool!" and realised that this was very unlikely I decided I should probably test the Hydrometer. So I tested it with...
Just read my earlier post on this. The first LME batch I did had a twang also, so maybe it's not the ingredients. Or maybe it's just more noticable in the dextrose brew.:wha:
Experimentation was had at the weekend. I'd like to hold off on final conclusions. Definitely more experiments needed...
Both batches fermented well. F.G of the liquid malt batch was around 1.009. The brew sugar batch was much lower. Close to 1.002 or 1.003 as I recall. Both are clear as a...
Yep, I'd guess you're right, a mix would be a decent trade off. I've got another one of these lined up as soon as the fermenters are empty, so probably use half DME (cheaper than LME) and half sugar.
Looking forward to the taste tests tho...
I did this kit a few months back with a can of amber LME added. Came out really nice. Clear as a bell and great head retention. I recall a bit of a twang at first but a few weeks more in the conditioning cupboard seems to have sorted it. Very drinkable now. I only have 5 bottles left, which I...
I bottled my third batch of this last month. This time used (medium or maybe amber) liquid malt extract instead of dry. No added sugar since last time I did that it didn't turn out as nice. Been cold conditioning for about a week now. This is the first time I've noticed a slight twang of...
If it's fermenting then surely you've added the sugar already? Or do you mean to prime it? For priming this would need around 80g for the whole batch or roughly half teaspoon per bottle.
Oh, this is good bitter. The bottled stuff is top notch. The KK stuff a bit raw and gassy or something, but it has had 4 weeks less cold conditioning. Bottled stuff I'd veeerry nice :thumb:
Any time I've heard about Coopers IPA hopped it's been really good stuff, Gav. It's actually next on my list as it happens, but probably bottle it. And cascade seems to be the way to go.
Also, would submerging the keg in water be advisable as a means of detecting the leak? I thought the instruction said to avoid getting the pressure release mechanism wet but I could be wrong.
If anyone is still monitoring this thread I had a question about CO2 being absorbed into water.
I'm fully testing my TTKK before I put another brew in. I put in a gallon of water and 5 PSI of CO2 pressure. An hour later still 5 PSI. This morning, no pressure. Could so much CO2 be absorbed into...
This came out with the lowest FG I've seen yet. Made even more remarkable by the fact that I forgot to put in yeast nutrient. The brew I did before this had yeast nutrient and it stuck at 1.020. Nutrient is a scam man. Or Coopers are just superior brews.
I put this on on Monday. Brewed short to 21 litres. Blew clean out the airlock on Tuesday. Had to replace the lid. Very active, even moreso than other Coopers I've done.
Brewed with 1kg medium DME and a little muscavado and demarara sugar, 100g or so of each cos they were laying about.
